We do not need expensive fountain pens and inks for quality pen-and-ink drawing, unless we are professionals in this area.
Before your first attempts and experiments with pen-and-ink drawing, we have a few tips for you:
Pre-draw the original with a hard pencil, its traces will disappear under the ink lines.
Keep the tip clean if it does not work well during drawing, soak it in water and dry it, then continue.
Try different drawing positions, the tip can be tilted.
If you are right-handed, we recommend drawing from the upper left corner down to the right, keeping clean paper under your hand. The ink needs some time to dry and you can easily smudge it by your hand.
Do not erase the ink and do not speed up the drying with absorbent paper, as this would destroy your drawing.
If something goes wrong the first time, don't be sad! When someone makes a blot, destroys a drawing, or if their pen does not write, all such moments create a new experience. And what if all lines do not look the same? It does not matter! The drawing at least gets the touch of the artist's originality and looks natural. Pen-and-ink drawing deserves patience. You will achieve your own satisfaction with enough diligence and persistence!
